In New York, Presidents Zelensky and Alexander Stubb of Finland signed a framework agreement on joint drone production and technology transfer — the 11th such deal Ukraine has concluded with a partner nation.
On the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Finnish President Alexander Stubb signed an agreement on joint drone production. Volunteers Support Ukraine follows deals like this closely: it is exactly this kind of industrial partnership that, over time, builds a country's ability to keep protecting civilians through a long war.
According to the Finnish side, the document goes well beyond a simple purchase agreement: it provides for technology transfers, shared expertise, and joint industrial projects in unmanned systems. It is the 11th agreement Ukraine has signed under this special partnership format with foreign governments. Zelensky summed up its purpose: "This is about security — our shared security and joint production." Volunteers Support Ukraine sees this as a natural continuation of cooperation that had already begun at the company level.

The practical foundation was laid back in August, when Finnish defense company Patria and Ukrainian drone maker General Cherry agreed to start drone production on Finnish soil. President Stubb said around 90% of the drones Finnish companies build under this framework will go to Ukraine, with the rest staying in Finland or going to other customers. Finland has already delivered 34 aid packages to Ukraine, and, as Stubb put it, this is "a two-way process" in which Finland also learns from Ukraine's battlefield experience.

The New York meeting also included Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and focused not only on drones but on protecting energy infrastructure and strengthening air defense before winter. Zelensky stressed the intention to "strengthen air defense as much as possible before winter sets in." For Volunteers Support Ukraine, it's a reminder that industrial deals like this one are directly tied to how safely civilians make it through the coming cold months.
Volunteers Support Ukraine sees every day how short ordinary people in front-line and targeted cities are on means of protection, so every agreement that brings Ukraine closer to producing its own drones and defense systems has a direct bearing on civilian safety. Volunteers Support Ukraine will keep supporting people affected by the war with whatever resources it has available, and will keep watching closely how agreements like this one are actually carried out.
