Overnight on September 5, Russian forces launched a ballistic missile strike on an industrial enterprise in Kamianske, Dnipropetrovsk region. According to Oleksandr Hanzha, head of the regional military administration, four people were killed and five more were wounded to varying degrees, with three of them hospitalized, including a 30-year-old woman who remains in intensive care. The strike came just hours after Ukraine announced it would refrain from airstrikes on Russia during the American envoys' visit — Kamianske became the most painful confirmation that Moscow answered that offer with more deaths. An air raid alert sounded across the region at 1:50 a.m., and within minutes a ballistic missile struck the enterprise. Local residents reported a series of powerful explosions; other strikes hit different districts of Dnipropetrovsk region the same night — in total, Russian forces carried out nearly 30 strikes with drones, artillery and missiles across four districts of the region that morning.
At the site of the strike on the enterprise, State Emergency Service firefighters battled flames right among the mangled, blast-twisted steel structures of the workshop — the characteristic scene left behind by a direct hit on an industrial site. The work was made harder by thick smoke and the risk of further collapse.
The same night, strikes also reached the region's residential areas: in one apartment, fire burned a room down to bare walls, leaving charred furniture and window frames blown out by the blast wave, overlooking the city outside.
Kamianske Mayor Andrii Bilousov declared September 5 a day of mourning for those killed and expressed condolences to their families, promising assistance to affected residents. Rescuers, medics and police worked at the scene throughout the night.
