On the evening of 12 October, Kyiv was hit by a drone and about six ballistic missiles. According to the National Police, as cited by Kyiv Post, two women aged 39 and 59 were killed and at least nine people were wounded, including a minor; the city health department said that by late evening the number of injured had reached 12, among them a 17-year-old. The NGO Volunteers Support Ukraine follows events in the capital because they affect millions of its residents.

A hostile drone struck a residential courtyard in the Darnytskyi district, causing fires and igniting parked cars. Kyiv Post reports that the projectile hit a 25-storey building between the 12th and 16th floors. Police reported damage in six districts, including three private homes in Darnytskyi and two preschools in the Solomianskyi and Shevchenkivskyi districts. Children and staff were sheltering when the strikes came, so no one was hurt there.

Around 22:10 the Air Force reported roughly six ballistic missiles heading for the capital. Radars detected them, but the military had no information about launches from russian territory, and explosions were heard before an air raid alert was issued. One missile hit a transport infrastructure facility in the Dniprovskyi district and another a four-storey warehouse in Desnianskyi. At 23:17 the city received a fresh drone warning. Zelensky condemned the strikes and urged the US to increase pressure on moscow.

For residents it is another night in basements and metro stations, with shattered windows and fear for loved ones. Volunteers Support Ukraine keeps helping people touched by the war as far as our means allow.
