On 8 October russian drones attacked Kyiv: according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko, four people were killed and at least 19 injured. In addition, a strike on one of the energy facilities important for the city left most districts of the capital without electricity. Kyiv Independent and Ukrinform reported this.

The dead and injured

By the evening, Klitschko said, 13 of the injured were in city hospitals, two of them in serious condition. Kyiv police reported a strike on a store building in the Solomianskyi district, where a 36-year-old woman and two men aged 43 and 55 were killed and two more people were injured. Damage was also recorded in the Desnianskyi, Sviatoshynskyi, Shevchenkivskyi and Holosiivskyi districts, including residential buildings, cars and garages; rescuers put out fires in the Solomianskyi and Shevchenkivskyi districts. No power, water or metro

Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal said the attack hit "one of the energy facilities important for the city of Kyiv." During the day power vanished in most districts, including Podil, Pechersk, Solomianskyi and the left bank; businesses switched to generators. The voltage drop briefly halted metro trains and escalators, and water pressure fell on the right bank. By 9 p.m. pumping equipment was running again, though full pressure took longer to restore. As of 00:30 on 9 October the left bank of the Dnipro was still without power while parts of the right bank had been restored; Ukrenergo announced consumption limits for 9 October.

Kyiv Oblast and the unexploded missiles

In Kyiv Oblast, DTEK introduced emergency shutdowns in the Brovary, Bucha, Vyshhorod and Boryspil districts. A fire broke out at a logistics facility in the Bucha district after the attack, and a school-kindergarten and a playground were damaged. Separately, police defused two unexploded ballistic missiles, each weighing about half a tonne, that had fallen near homes in Kyiv.
