Russian drones struck the town of Lozova in Kharkiv region overnight, killing one woman, injuring three people, and damaging apartment buildings and the local train station.
Russian forces attacked the town of Lozova in Kharkiv region overnight into September 21 with attack drones, killing one woman and injuring three other people, according to Ukraine's State Emergency Service in Kharkiv region. Rescuers recovered the woman's body from the rubble of a damaged two-story apartment building, where the roof burned across roughly 200 square meters and second-floor apartments were destroyed. A second woman was pulled from the wreckage alive. Volunteers Support Ukraine mourns the loss of life in Lozova and stands with the community as it recovers from this attack.
The strike partially destroyed residential buildings in Lozova, sparking two separate fires that firefighters worked through the night to bring under control. Emergency crews had to navigate collapsed structural debris, broken brickwork, and downed roofing to reach residents trapped inside. Three people were injured in the attack and required medical treatment. Volunteers Support Ukraine continues to track strikes like this one across Ukraine's frontline regions to help direct aid where it is needed most urgently.

The same overnight assault also damaged Lozova's railway station, a key hub on the line connecting Kharkiv with central and southern Ukraine. Photos from the scene show flames engulfing part of the station's roof and shattered windows along its historic facade, with the ticket hall visibly scorched. The attack also tore through overhead power lines on the platform, though the station's structure and tracks remained largely intact. Ukraine's railway operator has repeatedly had to repair damage to the Lozova hub amid the sustained Russian campaign against the country's rail network this year.

By sunrise, the extent of the damage to the station platform was visible in daylight: torn overhead catenary cables hanging over the tracks, debris scattered across the platform, and damaged benches and signage. Despite the damage, rail workers moved quickly to assess the line so that service disruptions could be kept to a minimum for the thousands of passengers who rely on this junction daily.

Attacks like the one on Lozova underscore why Volunteers Support Ukraine's work remains urgent: families lose their homes and, too often, their loved ones, in a matter of seconds. The organization keeps delivering the aid it can to communities across Ukraine affected by the war, helping however it is able while continuing to document and share what is happening on the ground.
