Polish prosecutors have opened a terrorism investigation into a fire at the WB Electronics plant in Skarżysko-Kamienna, about 150 kilometers south of Warsaw. The facility manufactures key components for reconnaissance and strike drones used by both the Polish and Ukrainian militaries. Volunteers Support Ukraine is following the case closely, since it touches the supply chain that keeps Ukraine's defenders equipped.
The fire broke out shortly after midnight on Monday, August 31, in the plant's warehouse section. Prosecutors say it was likely started deliberately, using a planted device containing flammable materials. Surveillance cameras reportedly captured a person in a balaclava climbing a fence and entering the site shortly before the blaze; a backpack and a sweatshirt were found nearby. Preliminary estimates put the damage from the fire, which destroyed warehouse facilities, at at least 15 million zloty (roughly €3.5 million). Five firefighting crews and police responded, bringing the blaze under control in under two hours; no one was injured. Prosecutors said the probe covers "participation in the activities of a foreign intelligence service directed against the Republic of Poland and a terrorist offense." The incident adds to a series of suspected sabotage and espionage acts targeting facilities that supply weapons to Ukraine, which Polish authorities and other EU states increasingly link to a wider Russian hybrid campaign against NATO countries.
