The Saratov oil refinery, owned by Russia's Rosneft, is one of the country's oldest such facilities and has already been struck by Ukrainian forces at least 16 times since the start of the full-scale invasion. The same evening, a logistics hub belonging to Ozon, Russia's largest online marketplace, was also hit.
Ozon's press service confirmed staff were quickly evacuated, and preliminary reports indicate no casualties. The fire engulfed a significant part of the warehouse buildings, and the column of smoke and flame was visible from various parts of the city.
Local residents posted videos on social media showing explosions and Russian air defenses in action. Smoke over the sites was still visible the following morning, seen even from bridges over the Volga River several kilometers from the strike.
This is far from the first Ukrainian drone strike on Russian oil refining capacity — similar attacks in recent months have led to noticeable fuel shortages in a number of Russian regions.
