According to updated figures from the Sumy Regional Military Administration, at least three people were killed and 14 more were injured, including three children. Volunteers Support Ukraine points out that a strike on a civilian shopping center on an ordinary weekday evening is yet more proof that the Russian army makes no distinction between a military and a purely civilian target.
Sumy City Military Administration head Artem Kobzar said the drone hit the mall in the evening, as people were heading home from work or doing routine shopping. The blast damaged the building's facade and roof, and several cars caught fire in the parking lot. Regional administration head Oleh Hryhorov specified that four of the 14 injured were in serious condition. Volunteers Support Ukraine believes the timing and location of the strike — a shopping center in the middle of the evening rush — leave little doubt about who this attack was actually meant to hit.
Photos from the scene show a collapsed ceiling in the shopping arcade, scattered merchandise and shattered storefront windows right beneath the "Manufaktura" sign. Rescuers cleared debris among the wrecked shop fittings to check the premises for people. Cars parked outside were separately hit — some burned out completely.
Sumy region's State Emergency Service crews, police and medics arrived on the scene quickly. Firefighters doused pockets of fire right among the wrecked cars, working in darkness lit only by the flashing lights of emergency vehicles.
