Ukrainian forces struck one of Russia's largest oil refineries in Volgograd overnight on July 31, along with a Wildberries warehouse, an EW system in Luhansk region, and an ammo depot in Crimea.
Ukraine's General Staff has confirmed that Ukrainian forces struck the Lukoil-Volgogradneftepererabotka oil refinery overnight on July 31 — one of Russia's largest refineries, with an annual processing capacity of around 15 million tons of crude. A major fire broke out at the facility, which produces gasoline, diesel and aviation fuel and supplies the Russian armed forces.
The same night, drones also struck a Wildberries logistics hub in Volgograd, sending up a second dense plume of black smoke visible across much of the city. According to the General Staff, Ukrainian forces simultaneously hit a Pole-21 electronic warfare complex near Holubivka in occupied Luhansk region, an ammunition depot in the Naumivka area of occupied Crimea, and a command post in the Bakhmut sector.
The strike on Volgograd is another episode in a weeks-long campaign by Ukraine's defense forces against the refineries and logistics facilities that fuel Russia's war effort. In the first half of 2026 alone, Ukrainian drones hit Russian oil refineries nearly 200 times, steadily eroding Russia's ability to keep its own army supplied with fuel.
Every refinery or ammunition depot taken out means less fuel and fewer resources for the Russian war machine that strikes Ukrainian cities every day.
