Overnight into August 4, drones struck Wildberries logistics warehouses in Moscow and Leningrad oblasts, and the Syzran oil refinery caught fire.

Overnight into August 4, drones struck several targets across Russia at once. A Wildberries logistics warehouse was hit in Chekhov, Moscow Oblast — roughly 65 km south of the Kremlin, in the Novoselki industrial zone. Moscow Oblast Governor Andrey Vorobyov reported at least 5 killed and up to 10 injured. A second Wildberries warehouse was struck in Krasny Bor, Leningrad Oblast, about 33 km from St. Petersburg, alongside a logistics center belonging to the Lenta retail chain. The Syzran Oil Refinery in Samara Oblast, roughly 800 km from the front line, also caught fire.

Why Wildberries

Since mid-July, drones have struck Wildberries facilities nearly every day — Ukraine alleges the retailer is involved in supplying components used in Russian military drone production. Kyiv had not officially confirmed the strikes at the time of publication, as is typical for operations of this kind. Russia's Defense Ministry claimed to have intercepted 320 drones overnight.

The heaviest toll — in Chekhov

The warehouse in Chekhov, according to the Moscow Oblast governor, accounted for the highest number of casualties. Eyewitnesses reported columns of black smoke over the industrial zone immediately after the strike. Volunteers Support Ukraine keeps watching how the war affects civilian infrastructure on both sides of the front line, and helps people affected by the fighting in whatever way its available resources allow.

A second warehouse in Leningrad Oblast

At the same time, fire engulfed another Wildberries warehouse — in Krasny Bor, Leningrad Oblast, next to a Lenta logistics center. Official Russian sources did not report major casualties there, though the scale of the blaze was comparable to the one in Chekhov.
