A Russian drone hit the last still-operating Epicentr home-improvement hypermarket in Zaporizhzhia on the morning of Aug. 28, sparking a fire that spread across thousands of square meters.
On the morning of Aug. 28, a Russian drone struck the Epicentr home-improvement hypermarket in Zaporizhzhia — the last store of that chain still operating in the city. At least four people were injured, according to Zaporizhzhia Oblast Governor Ivan Fedorov.
The strike and the resulting fire engulfed a large part of the retail building, with flames spreading across thousands of square meters of roofing and storage space. Emergency crews fought the blaze for hours after quickly evacuating staff and customers.
This was not the first Epicentr store hit in Zaporizhzhia — Russian forces have repeatedly targeted the chain's retail sites in the city and region in recent months. Just a day earlier, a drone struck a similar hypermarket in Kharkiv, killing one person. Retail and industrial facilities remain among the recurring targets of Russian strikes deep inside Ukraine.
