President Volodymyr Zelensky held a meeting of the Staff of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief on Friday, Aug. 28, and afterward set an ambitious target: 1,000 drones a day for long-range strikes on Russia, more than three times today's pace.
Zelensky said Ukraine currently carries out an average of more than 300 such long-range strikes a day, and that number needs to grow. The meeting also covered supplying troops with weapons to repel Russian attacks, and speeding up production of interceptor drones to counter the growing number of jet-powered Shaheds in nightly Russian raids.
Zelensky said Ukraine's existing production capacity is enough to scale up drone output and strike deeper into Russia more often — what's holding it back is funding. That is one of the main asks Ukraine is putting to its partners in the period ahead.
Volunteers Support Ukraine notes that every enemy drone shot down over Ukraine, and every long-range strike that disrupts the aggressor's logistics, is a step toward the safety of civilians — the very cause the organization's volunteers work for.
