Zelensky says Russia has begun additional mobilization while North Korea prepares 10,000 more soldiers on top of the 8,000-plus already in Russia.

On 28 September, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned that the Kremlin has begun additional mobilization and is preparing a new intake of troops from North Korea. According to him, North Korea intends to send another 10,000 soldiers to Russia, on top of the more than 8,000 already there.

Volunteers Support Ukraine follows such statements closely, because every reinforcement of the Russian army means added danger for Ukrainian cities and people.

A new mobilization wave in Russia

Zelensky cited Ukrainian military intelligence data showing that Russia has already increased the number of people it draws into the army by various means. The statement came shortly after the ruling United Russia party's win in the State Duma elections on 21 September.

What Moscow gives Pyongyang in return

Ukraine points out that Russia repays North Korea with technological assistance: according to Zelensky, Shahed-type attack drones are now also being produced in Pyongyang. "This is how evil spreads and how a threat to life in one part of the world spreads to other parts of the world," the president said.

What it means

How large the new mobilization really is, and how many North Koreans actually appear at the front, will become clear in the coming weeks. NGO Volunteers Support Ukraine keeps helping people affected by the war with the resources available.
