A Russian drone struck Ukraine's Izmail district overnight into Aug. 29, killing one person and injuring three others, and setting fire to trucks carrying grain through one of the country's key Danube export hubs.
Overnight into Saturday, Aug. 29, a Russian drone attack hit the Izmail district of Ukraine's Odesa region — one of the country's main gateways for grain exports along the Danube River. One person was killed and three others were injured, according to Oleh Kiper, head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration.
The strike damaged transport infrastructure and set fire to trucks loaded with grain and other food cargo — eight vehicles caught fire in total, several of them burning out completely. Fourteen State Emergency Service firefighters with three fire engines, backed by a local "Bahate" volunteer brigade, were sent to contain the blaze.
Izmail, together with the nearby port of Reni, has carried an outsized share of Ukraine's grain exports since Black Sea shipping routes became unsafe. Since Russia intensified strikes on this corridor, shipping and freight traffic through the region has continued to operate under the constant risk of renewed attacks.
