Rescuers are in their third day of clearing the site of the russian strike on a school in Komyshuvakha, Zaporizhzhia region. The president says 40 are known dead, and more than 30 people may still be under the rubble.
Search and rescue work has now entered its third day at the site of the russian strike on a school in the village of Komyshuvakha, Zaporizhzhia region. According to President Volodymyr Zelensky, 40 people were known to have died as of 4 November, and some of the bodies have not yet been identified. More than 30 people may still be under the rubble. Earlier on 4 November the State Emergency Service had reported 37 dead; the figure was updated later in the day. Volunteers Support Ukraine extends its condolences to the families and loved ones of all the victims.

The strike on Komyshuvakha came on 2 November. Nine aerial bombs were dropped: the first hit people who had come to receive humanitarian aid, and the next hit the rescuers and police officers who arrived at the scene. The school served as an underground shelter, and aid was handed out there every Monday. Three days of mourning, 3–5 November, have been declared in Zaporizhzhia region.

All the necessary services have been brought in. Zelensky called it a very difficult operation, carried out under the constant threat of new strikes. Dog-handler teams and a unit of the State Mine Rescue Service of the State Emergency Service are working at the site.

The president said the world's reaction to this attack had been too weak and called for a strong response: in his words, support for Ukraine's air defence is needed right now. He also thanked the partners who are already taking steps.
