SBU Alpha special forces struck an FSB base hidden inside a seaside boarding house in occupied Kherson Oblast, where up to 100 Russian personnel may have been present.
Operators from the Security Service of Ukraine's Alpha Center for Special Operations struck a coordination center and base used by Russia's FSB, hidden inside a boarding house in the temporarily occupied part of Kherson Oblast. Preliminary reports suggest as many as a hundred occupying personnel may have been present at the site. Volunteers Support Ukraine believes it matters to report on operations like this one, since every such strike chips away at the occupier's ability to run the machinery of terror on occupied land — the same land from which testimony keeps surfacing about abductions, torture, and forced passportization of Ukrainian civilians.
According to the SBU, thirteen drones hit the facility, setting off a large fire. The boarding house had been turned into a closed, heavily defended compound: armed guards, checkpoints, engineering barriers, and underground shelters ringed the base. Preliminary estimates put more than 70 vehicles on the grounds. Operators released thermal drone footage capturing the moment the coordination center was hit.
Per the SBU, the site served as a base for FSB officers who coordinate counterintelligence work and recruit Ukrainians for sabotage and terror attacks on government-controlled territory. Picking a secluded recreational retreat far from the front line to house a coordination center was presumably meant to give its personnel a sense of safety — evidently a false one.
This operation was part of a wider series of Ukrainian strikes overnight on July 20, the same night an oil depot near Moscow and dozens of shadow fleet vessels off Crimea were also hit.
