Zelensky: results against russian infiltration near Dobropillia

The president reports progress in countering russian infiltration near Dobropillia, while the Skelia and Azov units pushed the enemy back near Hruzke and Novomykolaivka.

On 9 October President Volodymyr Zelensky said there are results in countering attempts by russian troops to slip deeper into Ukrainian defences on the Dobropillia axis in Donetsk region. He wrote about it on Telegram after a briefing with military and government officials. It is welcome news in a heavy week, and Volunteers Support Ukraine is glad to share it.

What the president said

At the briefing, the defence minister and the commander-in-chief reported on the front, mainly in Donetsk region: Kostiantynivka, Dobropillia, Sloviansk and Kramatorsk. According to Zelensky, participants agreed on decisions that should deliver results within the coming weeks. He singled out the fight against infiltration attempts near Dobropillia, where, he said, results are already visible.

What happened on the ground

According to UNITED24 Media, on 6 October the 425th Skelia brigade reported an operation near Hruzke and Novomykolaivka. It involved Skelia assault troops, units of the 12th Azov Special Forces Brigade of the National Guard's 1st Corps and other units. The military say russian forces were massing to reach Ukrainian logistics routes and set up an encirclement of Druzhkivka, with a push toward Dobropillia to follow. Ukrainian assault groups cleared dozens of positions, and the Shkval battalion claims more than 40 enemy troops killed in small-arms fighting. These figures come from the brigade itself and have not been independently verified.

Why it matters

The Dobropillia area is part of the Druzhkivka–Kramatorsk–Sloviansk belt of cities that holds the enemy back from the rest of Donetsk region, so every repelled attempt counts. At the same time, the president speaks about results against infiltration, not an end to fighting on this axis, and the new decisions are meant to show within weeks.
