Ukraine's Presidential Office is weighing a trip by Volodymyr Zelensky to Washington next week — to attend the funeral of Senator Lindsey Graham and hold bilateral talks with US President Donald Trump, according to Suspilne sources. No final decision has been made: neither the Presidential Office nor the White House has officially confirmed the visit, and the full itinerary, including the list of meetings and attendees, has yet to be finalized.
Graham's funeral is scheduled for July 28 at Washington National Cathedral. Graham, one of Ukraine's most consistent supporters in the US Congress and a close ally of Donald Trump, died suddenly on July 11 — just hours after returning from his tenth visit to Kyiv.
On July 10, Zelensky received Graham in Kyiv, at St. Michael's Square, flanked by the monastery's golden domes and by destroyed Russian military equipment displayed there for visiting foreign delegations. The two discussed tightening sanctions pressure on Russia and Ukraine's urgent air defence needs. Zelensky noted it was Graham's tenth such trip to Ukraine and publicly thanked him for his steady support of Ukrainian forces.
If the trip goes ahead, a bilateral meeting between Zelensky and Trump is planned alongside the memorial service, as part of the broader effort to revive negotiations aimed at ending the war. Earlier this week Zelensky spoke with US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner and said he intends to hold trilateral Ukraine-US-Russia talks, tentatively in the autumn of 2026, though he added that he would personally prefer them to happen this summer.
