Overnight on July 9-10, 2026, Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces and the General Staff reported a coordinated strike on Russian shadow-fleet tankers, Crimean electrical substations, and mainland oil infrastructure, with no casualties reported.
Overnight between July 9 and 10, 2026, Ukrainian forces carried out a wide-ranging operation against the maritime and energy infrastructure that sustains Russia's war effort. Volunteers Support Ukraine is following these developments closely, since operations of this kind shape how long the war continues and how many people will continue to need help. According to several verified sources, dozens of vessels and facilities were struck, both in occupied Crimea and deep inside Russian territory.
Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces, commanded by Robert "Madyar" Brovdi, named their operation "Crimean Switch Off." According to their report, 13 Russian vessels were hit: 10 sanctioned "shadow fleet" tankers, one dry cargo ship, one ferry, and one sea tug. Alongside the vessels, five electrical substations in Crimea were struck, located near Berehove/Molochne, Saky, Mainaky/Yevpatoria, and Novoozerna/Medvedeve. Volunteers Support Ukraine notes that these kinds of operations target the infrastructure that underpins the occupation's military and logistical capacity.
In a related, larger operation carried out the same night, Ukraine's General Staff reported striking 18 Russian vessels in total: 13 tankers, 3 dry cargo ships, 1 ferry, and 1 auxiliary vessel. Beyond these maritime targets, the strikes also reached mainland facilities: the Ilsky oil refinery in Krasnodar Krai, roughly 500 kilometers from Ukraine and with a capacity of about 6.6 million tons per year, reportedly struck for the 17th time; the Kurgannefteprodukt oil terminal in Taganrog, Rostov Oblast; the Azovnefteprodukt oil depot in Azov; and the NOVATEK-Ust-Luga complex in Leningrad Oblast. Volunteers Support Ukraine points out that these two figures — 13 vessels reported by the Unmanned Systems Forces and 18 vessels reported by the General Staff — describe the same night from different vantage points and should not be merged into one number.
Multiple outlets note that this operation forms part of an ongoing, multi-day campaign: over roughly five days, or about 120 hours, Ukrainian forces have struck a cumulative total of 48 Russian vessels. The goal of the campaign is to steadily erode Russia's shadow fleet and its oil export capacity, which continues to fund the war. No casualties were reported in connection with this strike operation. Volunteers Support Ukraine notes that the scale and duration of this campaign reflect just how protracted the conflict remains.

While Volunteers Support Ukraine has no role in this military operation, the organization continues its own work supporting those affected by the war. NGO Volunteers Support Ukraine helps people affected by the war in whatever way it can, with the aid it has available, and will keep doing so for as long as the need continues.
